Sakura Teppanyaki - Surabaya

Teppanyaki With a Chinese Twist

Sakura Teppanyaki Surabaya

For those of you accustomed with the authentic Japanese Tepanyaki, you might be taken a back by this particular restaurant. Unlike your regular Tepanyaki joint, this one also serves some simple Chinese fare such as fried noodle, fried rice, and flat noodle / kwetiaw, which is similar to Pad Thai.
Long ago there were similar place selling the same item at Tunjungan Plasa. It was quite popular back then, I don't really know why they ended up being closed.

Though similarly named to the Teppanyaki which I frequented at Tunjungan Plasa mall, this place have their own take, they also serves some rather authentic Japanese cuisine such as Udon, Tempura and Donburi. Despite that though, the bulge of the menu that was ordered while I was here, were the Noodles and Fried Rice. For those of you seeking a Teppanyaki closer to the Japanese original, you can visit this page : Edamame - Grand City

The food here are okay, though I don't think there's any different than the regular noodle and fried rice cooked in the next door Chinese restaurants. To be honest I kinda like the noodle on the House of Wok which is located very near.
The price is close to Rp 40.000 for the noodle bellow, which is quite steep for a regular Fried Noodle, which is what it tasted like. I guess the bulk of the price might have to do with the Teppanyaki cooking process, which is quite amusing.

Upon visiting the eatery, I saw the place was quite packed. Either people really like the place, or lots of people wanting to try the food for the first time, such was my case.
In my view, the place seems to be confused, it's neither authentic Japanese nor Chinese cuisine eatery.
I'd have more pleasing experience having a noodle in Noodle House, or savoring Japanese Cuisine in restaurants that's caters a more authentic experience, such as Edamame, Sushi Hana, or the Kizahashi.
But if you really want to try a mix up of both, this is the place to go.
