Singapura adalah salah satu kota yang cantik tapi sekaligus biaya hidupnya mahal. Sebagai tujuan wisata banyak kesamaannya dengan Hong Kong yang juga bujubineng mahalnya biaya kamar hotel.

Berhubung Singapura adalah negara tetangga indonesia, biaya transport ke sini relatif murah, saya kadang bisa mendapatkan harga Rp 760.000 PP kalau sedang ada promo tiket murah.

Walau biaya penerbangan tidak mahal, lain halnya tentang penginapan.

Singapore is easily one of the most expensive yet beautiful city to visit, it's on par with Hong Kong in terms of accommodation cost.

The city state is adjacent to Surabaya, and sometime we do get a cheap low cost carrier ticket from Rp 760.000 or about $60, for round trip Surabaya to Singapore and back.

The average nice hotels are quite expensive compared to the airfare, so after having such a great deal, and the trip being both leisure and business, I try to balance the budget somewhat and stay at a capsule hostel.

Untuk saya, pilihan tempat menginap tergantung dari beberapa pertimbangan, pertama dan utama kamar tidurnya, disusul makan pagi dan kamar mandinya. Untuk di Singapura, saya tidak terlalu memperhatikan masalah kedekatan lokasi dengan transportasi umum, karena saya tidak keberatan menggunakan bis. Biasanya kalau orang mengeluh tentang lokasi hotel di Singapura, bukan berarti jauh dari semua transportasi umum, tapi hanya MRT. Saya sendiri cukup mahfum dengan rute bis Singapura jadi tidak masalah.

For me usually I factor a few things when choosing a room, first and foremost is the bed / room, the other two is breakfast and bathroom. This time I don't factor in location, since Singapore is a really well connected city. At worse, a place is quite far from MRT station, but usually there would be a bus station conveniently close.

Singapura termasuk kota tujuan orang berduit, kalau ingin hemat, biasanya saya lebih suka menggok ke Kuala Lumpur ^^

Karenanya, harga kamar di sini fluktuatif, sebagian hotel / hostel primadona, akan lebih mahal pada saat turis membludak, bisa karena tanggal / bulan liburan, atau sekedar akhir minggu pada saat bulan biasa.

Sedangkan hostel lain yang tidak terlalu populer, tidak akan membedakan harga weekend vs weekday nya.

Karenanya saat booking sebaiknya coba beberapa kombinasi tanggal dan hostel.
Untuk kepergian saya kali ini, saya melakukan booking hostel premium yang harganya sekitar S$35 di hari biasa, sedangkan untuk sabtu ke minggu saya menginap di hostel S$20 yang bedanya antara weekday vs weekend hanya S$ 1-2.

Sebaliknya untuk hostel premium di atas, saat booking untuk weekend, harga S$35 tersebut berubah menjadi S$45 atau beda S$10 sendiri.

Singapore as you may already know is a premier destination for the yuppies. For those with budget on mind, would be happier in Kuala Lumpur which is also beautiful albeit much more affordable ^^

Being a destination for the big pocketed travelers, some popular lodging prices fluctuates periodically. It's much more expensive on holiday seasons, and on weekends.

To get the best prices, I choose to book the premium hostels on weekdays, while the regular S$30 and bellow being my choice on weekends.
The premium hostels cost difference is S$10 jumping from weekday to weekend (S$35 to S$45), while the regular ones are just S$1-2 (S$18 - S$20)

Nespresso - The Pods Singapore - About S$ 40 / night

Tentang makan paginya, yang jadi faktor utama saya bukan makanannya tapi kopi yang disediakan.

Berhubung suka dengan espresso, saya tidak bisa menikmati kopi hasil drip machine yang disajikan di jug seperti foto di bawah ini.

Hasil seduhan kopinya tidak ada aroma dan tidak terasa mantap, jadi mirip dengan teh.

When I said breakfast, I emphasize on the coffee rather than food ^^.

Being a espresso aficionado, I don't consider this type of coffee pictured bellow as palatable. Coffee in a jug/pot and warmed continuously in a heating element just tastes awful for me. The coffee lost it's body, aroma and in most cases, tastes more like a overbrewed tea.

Kopi enak tidak selalu harus diseduh dengan mesin espresso / nespresso (capsule) seperti di atas, saya merasa vietnam drip dan siphon juga tidak kalah enaknya. Saya lebih milih ngopi pakai vietnam drip yang saya bawa dari Surabaya dibandingkan coffee dripper yang ada di hotel Bella Bello Kuala Lumpur kemarin. Walau coffee dripper di sana cukup mewah dan kopinya disiapkan dari biji, digiling fresh dan dibuat di tempat, masalahnya, yang bisa dinikmati oleh pengunjung adalah kopi hasil seduhan yang sudah lama ditaruh di pemanas... rasanya menjadi tawar dan aromanya hilang.

A good coffee prerequisite isn't necessarily having a espresso machine, I like both Vietnam drip and siphon coffee brew equally. When staying in the Bella Bello Hotel in KL, I prefer using my vietnam drip coffee maker rather than using their big coffee machine, since it's brewed before-hand and being heated for a long time, making it unpalatable for me.

S$ 10 - 30 Hostel, The Regular Options

Coziee Lodge Hostel - Singapore (Agoda) - about S$ 13 / night (low season)

Di kisaran harga ini, fasilitas yang bisa kita dapat biasanya berupa ranjang bunk bed dalam kamar yang diisi 4-16 orang, ada juga beberapa alternatif 'kapsul' atau pod dengan sedikit privasi berupa gorden.

Bunk Bed lebih menarik untuk traveler yang berangkat beramai-ramai, jadi selama di kamar bisa berinteraksi lebih bebas tanpa takut mengganggu teman sekamar lainnya.
Lain halnya dengan pilihan Pods / Capsule, biasanya lebih diharapkan untuk menjaga keheningan dan toleransi terhadap kebisingan juga lebih rendah.

On this budget, you get some curtained 'capsules' / pods and bunk bed alternatives. 

Bunk Beds would be nice if you go on a group, you can chat with friends in the same bedroom, which would be frowned upon in Pods / Capsule bedroom.

For me a good capsule is a must when travelling alone, bunk beds doesn't do it for me, with exception of some really nice ones. 

5 Footway Inn Singapore - Beautiful Hostel, sometime not so clean.

5 Footway Inn adalah hotel dengan foto terbaik untuk kisaran harga ini. Andai tidak melihat review, pilihan utama saya pasti jatuh ke tempat ini. Saya sempat bingung tempat bagus begini reviewnya kok tidak sampai 8 dari 10, hanya berkisar 7, ternyata keluhannya seputar kebersihan tempat, baik kamar tidur maupun kamar mandinya.

5 footway inn are one of the nicest hostel judging from the pictures in Agoda and Tripadvisor. My choice here would be this place on this budget, if I'm only viewing the pictures without reading the comments. The problem is that the judging from the review, it isn't as peachy. Main complaint in Agoda is that they can't keep cleanliness of the place to a satisfactory standard.

Green Kiwi  - Simple lodging with Espresso Machine

Penggemar Kopi bakal cocok menginap di sini. Kalau biasanya di tempat lain yang lebih mahal kita bisa mendapatkan espresso dari mesin nespresso yang kecil dan ala kadar, di sini disediakan mesin espresso yang cukup besar. Kalau benar tipenya,Nuova Simonelli Appia 1 GS, mesin kopinya sendiri itu cukup mumpuni buat melayani kafe komersial, harganya sekitar Rp 40.000.000,-

Tempat ini termasuk juara untuk makan paginya juga, karena untuk harga yang sangat murah, kita bisa mendapatkan buah segar (yang termasuk mahal di Singapura) dan selai untuk roti ditaruh dalam tempat kecil yang cantik dan lebih terjaga kebersihannya. 

Coffee lovers on a tight budget would love this place. Despite being a spartan lodging, it has a genuine espresso machine, which seems to be Nuova Simonelli Appia 1 GS. If this is true, the coffee machine alone costs a whooping S$ 4.000, which is a great facility considering the affordable hostel cost of S$18

If you love a good breakfast (keep in mind, hostel standards) you'll be satisfied with what this place has to offer. They serve fresh fruit cuts, which is a luxury in Singapore's hostel, and they serves the bread spreads in a small jars, making them cute as a button for your instagram shots and keeping them hygienic.

Rucksack Inn - Lavender Street Singapore, Breakfast All Day

Pilihan pribadi saya untuk hostel murah jatuh ke tempat ini, reviewnya cukup baik, kelemahan utamanya di lokasi yang tidak dekat MRT. Walaupun demikian sekitar 100 meter dari hotel ada bus stop, jadi tidak sulit untuk menjangkau tempat ini, hanya saja sebagian orang lebih suka hanya menggunakan MRT dibandingkan mempelajari rute bis.

My personal choice for this price range would be this hostel. It's reviewed quite well among travelers both in Agoda and Tripadvisor. The main complaint is usually about it's location, which is quite for from MRT stations, despite that, a bus stop is available just few hundred meters from the hostel. This made it a good choice for me, since I don't mind taking the bus instead of MRT.

Rucksack Inn Lavender Street - Bathroom

Ada dua opsi kamar yang bisa dipilih di sini, pertama pilihan bunk bed yang cukup murah, sekitar Rp 180.000 atau S$18. Pilihan kedua untuk yang ingin privasi, bisa memesan kamar "pod" yang unitnya dipisahkan dinding pembatas dan menggunakan tirai.

There's two options you can choose for your lodging, first there's the very affordable bunk beds, and a second more expensive options of Pods. I much prefer the pod since the price differences isn't that much. You'd get more privacy, and probably a better sleeping experience.

Rucksack Inn  - Dining Area

Satu hal positif lain, untuk yang suka ngopi / afternoon tea, di sini makanannya tidak hanya tersedia saat breakfast, tapi sepanjang hari. Pilihannya sederhana, hanya berupa roti dan selai, tapi tetap saja cukup menarik untuk backpacker yang kadang perlu menghemat biaya makan.

Another good things about this hostel the 'breakfast' spread is available all day. If you're feeling parched in the afternoon, or just needing a good snack to go along with your coffee / tea, you could just head to the dining area and whip a toast with peanut butter & jelly.

Being a food blogger, I'd rather eat out rather than saving a few dollars with all day toast meals, but if you're saving every penny on your backpacker trip, you'd go a long way by choosing this hostel.

Aljunied@SG - Cheapest Option?

Aljunied Hostel Singapore - S$ 10 or S$70 ???

Saat saya cek harga kamar hostel untuk bulan November, pilihan termurah jatuh di tempat ini, hanya sekitar Rp 100.000 per malam di halaman booking.

The cheapest option for hostel at the moment of writing is Aljunied@SG in the Geylang area, which costs below $10 at the booking page.

Aljunied Hostel Singapore - S$ 10 or S$70 ???

Masalahnya adalah, harga tersebut berbeda jauh dengan harga akhir yang banyak surcharge dan pajak. Setelah memasukkan pajak, retribusi acara F1 racing, surcharge tahun baru, harga akhirnya adalah Rp 747.000 untuk dua malam, padahal harga awalnya Rp 178.000. Kemungkinan ini karena error, karena salah satu pilihan kamar yang lain di page nya ada yang tersedia dengan harga per malam di bawah Rp 200.000. Tanggal keberangkatan juga bukan tahun baru atau tanggal penyelenggaraan balap F1.

Yang ingin booking harga murah ada baiknya tetap perhatian ke harga akhir sebelum konfirmasi pemesanan, daripada ribet harus mengurus pembatalan pemesanan kamar.

The problem is, there's a very big difference between the room rates on first display compared to the final price after tax and surcharges. Initially it's 178.000 for two nights, turns out it costs Rp 747.000 after F1 levy, New Year Surcharge, etc, which is strange since the booking were made neither in the F1 season nor in the new year. Probably this is an error in the page, do be careful to double check your booking before confirming.

S$30 - S$ 50 Hostel, The Premium Options

Enni at the Marina Bay Sands

Berangkat ke kisaran harga 'Marina Bay Sands' untuk ukuran hostel, banyak pilihan yang menarik dengan ulasan yang sangat bagus pula. Saya memfilter pilihannya menjadi beberapa tempat yang paling menarik, baik dari segi fasilitas, makan pagi, atau adanya shuttle transfer untuk ke airport.

Now we're moving to the 'Marina Bay Sands' level of hostel experience in Singapore. There's plenty of great hostel in Singapore at this price range, but I'm going to narrow it to the best deals, taking account the overall facilities, breakfasts, and the availability of airport transfer.

Night Caps at the Stamford Swisotel Bar - A cocktail is priced at about S$ 22

Walaupun budget minim, kalau kita membelanjakan dengan cermat masih bisa menikmati sedikit kemewahan di kota ini. Untuk biaya yang sama dengan beberapa gelas cocktail di City Space Bar, berlokasi di Hotel Stamford Singapura, kita bisa mendapatkan kamar yang nyaman di hostel premium

Even with a limited budget, we can sample some tiny morsels of affordable luxury in Singapore. For the same price of a few glass of cocktails in Stamford Hotel's City Space Bar, you can sample Singapore's premium hostel experience.

Dream Lodge - Friendly Host & Clean Freaks

Dream Lodge - S$ 40 / night

Dream Lodge ini adalah salah satu hotel dengan nilai ulasan terbaik. Pujian-pujian dari pelancong biasanya menyangkut kebersihan tempat yang dijaga dengan baik, dan keramahan pengelola hostelnya. 

Sama seperti hostel-hostel di atas, di sini juga disediakan makan pagi, dan ada mesin espresso Krups seperti yang ada di foto.

Dream Lodge frequently ranks top on Agoda's review. People likes that the place is kept pristine clean, and the hostel staffs are very friendly and accommodating.

Just like the previous, cheaper hostel options, breakfast is provided here. There's also an espresso machine here, such as pictured above, which is always a big plus for me.

Coo Boutique Hostel - For the artistic travelers

Coo Boutique Hostel - S$35 / night

Coo Boutique Hostel adalah salah satu penginapan dengan nilai terbaik di situs review, tapi perlu diingat, tempatnya relatif baru dan review yang masuk masih belum sebanyak tempat lain, jadi belum tentu tempat ini adalah hostel terbaik karena mempertahankan 20 review bagus tentu lebih mudah dibandingkan dengan 2000 review.

Tempatnya terlihat bersih, dengan desain yang menarik dan modern, serta pilhan warna ruangan yang gelap, yang sesuai dengan selera saya untuk hostel.
Untuk makan paginya, jangan terkecoh dengan foto yang tersedia di Agoda, termasuk yang saya posting di atas ini, karena foto makanan itu bukan foto makan pagi yang termasuk fasilitas hostel, tapi foto makanan dari bistronya yang opsional.
Untuk menu breakfastnya bisa dilihat di bagian atas, ada foto dari blog rebecca saw yang menjabarkan menu makan pagi di hostel ini dengan cantik.

Coo Boutique hostel is currently the on top of Agoda review board, but keep in mind the hostel is quite new, and there isn't plenty of reviews yet. So despite the fact that this place is getting top spot on the rank, we have to realize that it's much easier to get 20 good reviews compared to maintaining a 2000 reviews in a good light. 

The place is quite nice, it has a modern design and dimly lit rooms which appeal to me, as does the beautiful fixtures.

For the breakfast, do note that the beautiful picture in Agoda (as I posted above also) isn't actually the complimentary breakfast that you'll get, rather it's an optional menu in their bistro.

The Pod - Capsule Hostel in Singapore

The Pod Singapore - S$ 38 / night

Hostel cantik ini adalah pilihan utama saya untuk menginap di Singapura, penggemar desain seperti ini bakal kesulitan menentukan pilihan dengan alternatif terbaik berikutnya, COO Boutique Hostel yang diulas sebelumnya. 

Hostel dengan desain yang simple, nyaman dan terlihat eksklusif.
Tersedia opsi kamar pod dalam dormitory / model asrama seperti hostel umumnya, atau pilihan kamar privat atau Suite yang bisa ditempati dua orang.

Kamar Suite dihargai sekitar S$ 50 untuk single, sedangkan untuk okupansi double sekitar S$ 75.

This beautifully designed hostel would be my first choice in Singapore, provided the price wasn't too high at the booking time.

I had a hard time deciding between this and COO Boutique hostel for my next trip.

This hostel has a simple yet exclusive design, and you get plenty of options of rooms.
For the budget conscious, you can get the regular dorm pods, which is priced at about S$38.
If you wanted total privacy, you can get the single suite for about S$50. The double suite is priced at S$75

Berbeda dengan COO, yang di halaman Agodanya menampilkan menu bistro (bukannya menu makan pagi standard yang termasuk), hostel The Pod malah tidak menampilkan foto breakfastnya sama sekali. Untungnya saya menyempatkan googling dahulu, jadi bisa melihat ulasan-ulasan menarik di blog lain yang menampilkan menu breakfast yang setara hotel bintang 3.

In a contrast to COO, which uploaded a bistro dish (instead of regular breakfast dish) to pimp it's Agoda gallery, this hostel doesn't display their breakfast in Agoda, despite having a  great hot breakfast option.

Luckily I found out from googling other blogs that this place have a great breakfast, possibly one of the best as far as hostel goes.

Selain makan pagi yang menarik, di sini juga disediakan mesin kopi nespresso.

To add to their great breakfast, they also provide a nespresso coffee machine.

Chic Capsule - Capsule with TV & Airport Transfer

Hostel terakhir yang ada di jajaran premium adalah Chic Capsule. Kualitasnya setara dengan ketiga tempat di atas, dengan keunggulan adanya TV di dalam unit pod / capsule kita.

Menu makan paginya juga kelihatannya cukup menggoda walaupun tidak ada unit espresso seperti di Capsule

Chic Capsule - Free Airport Transfer (from hostel to airport) S$ 35 / night

Kalau pembaca memutuskan untuk mencoba menginap di beberapa hostel, Chic Capsule ini cocok dipilih untuk etape terakhir di Singapura, karena di hostel ini disediakan transportasi harian dari Hostel menuju Changi Airport. 

Fasilitas ini bebas biaya dan tersedia dua kali, pagi pada pukul 10.15 dan sore pukul 15.15.

If you're planing to stay in multiple hostels like I do, Chic Capsule would be best for the final days of the trip. This hostel provide an airport transfer from hostel to Changi Airport.

This free transfer is available daily, once in the morning at 10.15 and another in the afternoon at 15.15.

Met A Space Pod Singapore - S$ 50 / night

Alternatif capsule lain dengan unit TV di dalamnya adalah Met A Space Pod, yang lebih futuristik unit capsulenya. Tapi buat saya masih kalah kalau dibandingkan chic capsule, karena selain lebih mahal, tidak ada airport transfer dan breakfastnya kalah menarik.

If you'd like another alternative of a capsule with TV, there's  Met A Space Pod,which has a more futuristic vibe to it. For me this place didn't make the pick, due to it being quite expensive at about S$50 per night, and there's no airport transfer nor interesting breakfast to speak of.
